Recycling in Condos, we need to step up!

With the environment being on everyone’s mind, and condo ownership rising in most major cities, more should be done to make it easier for residents to recycle, or maybe people just need to step up! With the numbers living in condos, this could go a long way to helping the environment.

Any ideas on how this could be done would be great. I know most buildings have large recycling bins in the garbage rooms, but it seems most people are not willing to go through the headache of sorting everything out and carrying it downstairs with the rest of their garbage. In a recent article in the peace arch news titled “Blue Bags eyed for apartments, there is some suggestion that having blue recycling bags that can fit under the sink for example may encourage people to recycle more. I think this is true and may work to some extent, but the bottom line is people just need to step up.

If you are living in a condo it is part of condo living to have to take your garbage down to a garbage room, the same way it is part of living in a house to have to take your garbage to the curb. Same goes with recycling, it doesn’t just sort itself and take itself to the curb, so the same goes for condos. Those that care enough will recycle, those that do not won’t.
