Greater Vancouver Builder Studying Leaky Condo Issues
October 27th, 2008Gauvin 2000 Construction has been conducting a 3 year experiment on building envelop technology.
It is great to see that someone is taking an active interest in ensuring that the leaky condo issue will be one of the past rather than timeless. It is often easy to rely on one method and think that it is the fix-all. When rain-screen technology was introduced it was thought to be the answer to all the problems. This is not to say that it was not a great step forward, but we always have to look forward and evaluate all techniques, make sure they are keeping up with the times, being used properly, and that there isn’t something better.
A great example of this may be the building code at the time of the leaky condo crisis. It was thought by most that because the building code allowed it, that the construction methods of the time were OK. We all know what happened from there. If there was a pro-active process taking place at that time maybe the problem could have been much smaller than it became and still is.
